From Small Workshop to Thriving Enterprise: Irene Waruguru’s Journey with 4GC

Irene Waruguru, the owner of Paramount Furniture, has grown her business significantly over the past two and a half years, greatly supported by her partnership with 4GC. She was introduced to 4GC by a business colleague who was already a customer. Her first loan of KES 30,000 was processed smoothly within a day, allowing her to invest in her business at a time when she urgently needed capital. With consistency and a clear growth plan, Irene later increased her loan limit to KES 143,000.

Her experience with 4GC has been both empowering and transformative. Irene explains that her first loan gave her the chance to sustain her business and later expand it. Despite the short repayment period sometimes being a challenge, she has adapted by saving and spreading her repayments weekly. Since starting, she has taken loans almost every month, using each one strategically to grow her operations.

That initial loan played a crucial role in keeping her business open at a time when expansion seemed nearly impossible. Irene began in a small space and has now grown to include a full workshop where she manufactures furniture. From only three employees, she now employs 15 permanent workers, five casual laborers, and works with several suppliers. Her product range has also expanded to include dining sets, outdoor furniture, bedside fixtures, nest of stools, and coffee tables. With increased production capacity, she has transitioned from retailing to wholesaling, doubling the growth of her business since inception.

As the business expanded, Irene has also gained a better work-life balance. Hiring employees with diverse skills—especially in sales—has allowed her to focus on key strategic areas and high-value clients. She says this shift has given her more family time and greater peace of mind, knowing that day-to-day operations are well managed by her reliable team.

Irene’s ambitions for the future remain high. She plans to expand Paramount Furniture further by beginning sofa production and eventually transforming her workshop into a larger factory. Achieving this will require increased loan amounts and strong financial backing, something she is confident 4GC can continue supporting her with. Passionate about uplifting others, Irene also hopes to pass on her skills to women and youth, as most of her employees are young. She enjoys working with them because they bring energy, creativity, and constant motivation to improve.
